2017 Speed RC Fall Points Final Round 8

“Any good winner is a bad loser” – Bobby Allison

Round 8 Summary

This round was one of my worst nights club racing in a long time. I didnt get off work on time and had to run a few errands before I got to the track. Of course this was also the first race night of a new layout.

This combination wreaked havoc on my night. I am typically not good on fresh tracks. Whatever everyone else does to get traction on wet tracks I haven’t learned yet! It was just horrible. There really isn’t much too share as far as what setups or tires I ran because its nothing I can recommend.

I will post the nights results below just to show how bad of a night I had. It happens to everyone. It wasn’t really the night I wanted heading down to Beach RC for the Masters of Dirt. But I will forget about this night and move on.

Looking back on the series though there are a few things to remember. Good starts are and always will be key. And you get good starts by qualifying well. I figure if you can start top 3 you have a really good chance to miss the carnage that normally happens at the start.

Also to note if for some reason you don’t get that good start but you know you have a really fast car its better to ride and not try to pass everyone at the start. Typically they will wreck, and when they wreck you will be there because you have a fast car and will be pressuring them into the mistake. But again a lot of this relies on you having a fast car that is easy to drive and you being confident. Which fortunately I had for most of this series.

I look back and I really did not change the setup on my buggy that much at all. Near the end of the series the track crew watered more and the grip did start to come up which I did have to adjust for.

Truck is another story. I never really got it to my liking. It seemed like I was always struggling with something, too much turn or not enough. I haven’t spent much time with my Stadium Truck since I bought it and it definitely shows. Which is one of the reasons I wanted to run it during this series to prepare for the Masters of Dirt at Beach RC.

Also its really not best practice to transition from mod to stock in the same night. To run fast laps in stock you have to be so aggressive with the throttle. I found myself having to remind myself after driving my truck to really hammer down on the throttle in the buggy. My stadium truck having a 7.5 I really have to ease into it and sometimes its just hard to run both in the same night.

Points series are great because it typically brings out more of a crowd and it forces you to run consecutive weeks. Anytime you can stay committed to racing consistently you will improve at the very least learn something that you didn’t know before the series started.
